Yesterday afternoon we braved the elements and travelled out into the heart of a snowstorm to head up to Akron. What was the purpose of our trip? To finalize our adoption homestudy with an agency called A Child's Waiting. That's right, we are now officially licensed to adopt children in the state of Ohio.Question: What exactly does this mean for us right now?
Answer: It means that when a birthmother comes to the agency who matches our profile we will be given the details about her situation. At that time we can either say that we would like to be considered or not. If we do, then ACW will show her our picture profile along with several others. If she likes us then we will be called for an interview with her. It could be a phone interview, but will most likely be face to face with a representative from the agency present also. After that she will either accept or reject us. The one thing that is a little scary is that even if the birthmom picks us - there is no guarantee that she won't change her mind. In Ohio she can't sign her termination of rights papers until 72 hours after birth.
Answer: We have no idea. The agency said that on average a picture profile is shown 10 times before a match is made. They also said on average it takes 9-13 months, but we have heard of couples who have got placements much faster than that.
After the quick approval meeting at ACW we stopped by Babies "R" Us and picked up a blanket set, then we went over to Macaroni Grill for supper. Finally, we ran into Baby Depot to look at even more baby stuff!
Also, in case you didn't already figure it out our 2008 remodelling project is actually for a nursery! What color do you think we should paint the walls?
Finally, we don't really know what to expect in the coming year. We have no idea when to expect a placement, where the big chunk of money for the placement fee is going to come from, and how hard the upcoming emotional roller coaster might be. We do know that God will provide for us (he has already provided the money to cover our application fee, homestudy fee, homestudy approval fee, and match fee!) and the end result will be a miracle!
This might seem like a big jump from here to here. I promise we will fill in the gaps!!!
